"To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness." -- Bertrand Russell
"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man." -- Bertrand Russell

The very first private manned space flight has returned to Earth. :D SpaceShipOne makes history. It's a day for us all to remember and be proud of, and continue our work in going out into space.
Woke up at 1.15pm today after a sedate party last night. Everyone was surprised/shocked to see my new short hair. Andrew said it looked wild and he preferred my long hair, HC said I looked great and exactly like HK actress and wife of Jet Li, Nina Li Chi (except not blonde) - he'd seen her in Hong Kong recently. :D Winnie and Jeff said I look good. Hehe. I like it anyhow.
Spent the night before reading up about The Day After Tomorrow. Turns out the science is horribly wrong, which is a good thing - no need to start stocking up. ;D
Today I cooked bacon and eggs for Nem and I - the cats really like the smell. Now am watching the CSI marathon. Joy...
If you haven't seen The Day After Tomorrow, turn off your computer and go catch it now.
If you have, you'll know what I mean.
From start to finish, Day reels you into its apocalyptic world and keeps you inside. You'll laugh and cry with its protagonists, and walk alongside all its survivors. You'll run for your life, and selflessly save the lives of others. You'll live right there in the Ice Age of today and struggle to survive.
The movie makes you think and feel and remember how grateful we should be to live and breathe everyday. I sure am.
For me, it is one of the best and most powerful movies I've ever seen. Good and accurate science? To my meager scientific knowledge, I think so.
I slept a lot this weekend, although some parts were broken.
On Saturday I met Joyce and we both got our hair cut. I cropped mine off into a pageboy. It's had interesting reviews from loved ones, and I think Nem is excited to have a new wife. My Dad walked right past me and gave an amused smile when I called him. He said, not bad. Nem didn't recognise me and thought I was someone else. But he likes it. My Mom almost bellowed "What did you do to your hair??" Then later, you look fresher. My brother's jaw dropped when he saw me, and then he screwed up his face and pointed at me, grimacing. My godmother bellowed, "What happened to your hair??"
All in all, everyone agrees I look brighter and fresher. I think it's cooler and just way easier to maintain. I still found myself reaching for my clippy thing to clasp up my hair in the morning, and my hairband when I'm lying down to read, but of course, they're now unnecessary. The cats still recognised me.
Saturday night we caught up with an old friend Cathy and her boyfriend Bobby.
Sunday we had lunch with my folks, and then went home to nap. Femme Fatale was showing but I found it rather boring and sort of like Once a Thief but worse. Watched a bit of Jeepers Creepers but turned off the telly near the end. The monster wasn't creepy in the least, but more of what he did to poor Derry in the end that creeped me out (yes, a movie actually creeped me out - at least its ending). It did remind me somewhat of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Anyhoo... my headache's finally ebbing. I am doing forced smiles to relax (apparently it has that effect). It is quite entertaining. :D
I am immensely grateful to the community of Deviant Art for lifting me out of my depression.
Since joining, I have been encouraged and uplifted by the warmth and generosity of its community of artists. I have also started working on my art, which I thought I'd given up already.
